The INCLUSION SCHOOL OF 2023 conference is organized by the InterAmerican Academy (IAA) of Guayaquil and sponsored by the American International Schools in the Americas (AMISA). This very exciting conference will take place in Guayaquil on February 16, 17, and 18 of 2023.

This second international conference will attract leaders in the field of INCLUSION from around the globe and will spotlight three keynote speakers and several break-out sessions.

ford dyke, phd

What makes us ‘Human’ - thursday 1:00 pm

Dr. Ford Dyke delivers his expertise in Human Performance Optimization through Podcasts, Consultations, Workshops, Webinars, and Seminars. Dr. Dyke consults globally with high-level performers such as corporate executives, elite athletes, physicians, academicians, first responders, and military personnel. His methodology integrates components of his Professorship, Team USA Athlete career, and experience as a Performance Coach for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

Dr. Dyke teaches courses in Performance-Based Psychology, Motor Learning and Performance, and Pillars of Performance and Health as an Associate Clinical Professor at Auburn University.

He also serves as the Director of Mindfulness-Based Performance and Health Optimization © A platform designed to support optimal performance, health, and well-being. Since its inception, Dr. Dyke has facilitated Seminars, Workshops, and Retreats for over 4,000 individuals, impacting local, regional, national, and international organizations. Among his accomplishments, he is the recipient of the 2019 Undergraduate Teaching Award and the 2022 Outstanding Young Alumni Award, as well as a nominee for the 2020 and 2021 Outstanding Faculty Outreach Award.

Dr. Dyke's education, professional experience, and personal journey led to the creation of perfor[Hu]mance.®––A multidimensional space for The Human Experience. As a native of the seaside community of Jupiter Beach, Florida, he remains mindful of an ocean breeze and waves breaking on the sand.

Lee Ann Jung, PhD

Your Students, My Students, Our Students: Rethinking Equitable and Inclusive Classrooms - friday 8:30 am

Is founder and CEO of Lead Inclusion. She provides training, ongoing consultation, and presentations to schools in the areas of universal design for learning, inclusion, intervention, and mastery-based assessment and grading. In her nearly 30 years in the field of education, Lee Ann been in the roles of teacher, administrator, researcher, consultant, and professor. She is a Clinical Professor at San Diego State University, and a consultant to schools worldwide. Lee Ann is a former full professor and director of International Partnerships at University of Kentucky. Lee Ann is the author of 7 books, numerous journal articles and book chapters, and has served as associate editor and editorial board member for several professional publications. In partnership with San Diego State University, Lee Ann leads the Inclusive Leadership Program, a professional learning and graduate program for educators.

Virginia Simmons, PhD

Why Inclusion - Saturday 8:30 am

Dr. Virginia Simmons is presently a teacher of English and teacher trainer in Khabarovsk, Russia. Her permanent home is in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is also an English Language Specialist for the U.S. Department of Education and a former English Language Fellow at the National University of Cambodia in Battambang.

During previous years, Dr. Simmons was the Special Education Specialist and English Language Teacher at the Heritage International School in Chisinau, Moldova and the Instructor of English for students and staff (including blind students) at TISBI University in Kazan, Russia.

She has a strong educational background and experience in several areas of education with an intensive concentration in special education. She received her PhD in Special Education and Education Administration from Kent State University and focused her dissertation on Gifted with Learning Disabilities.

She has over 45 years of experience as a teacher and administrator at the local, regional, and state levels in the public school systems of two states. She is an adjunct professor at several universities in the United States and has been a state and national leader in professional organizations. Dr. Simmons was a workshop leader and keynote speaker at UNESCO Conferences in Kazan, Russia and has led workshops in conferences throughout the world.

Virginia has published several articles about the work that she has done and was published as one of the authors in a book concerning the psychology of English Language teachers. Dr. Simmons considers her work at InterAmerican Academy in Guayaquil as one of her greatest accomplishments of life. The opportunity to work with a Student Support Team who developed a comprehensive and detailed plan for student support was only surpassed by the team’s devotion to share and learn through the organization and implementation of the First International Inclusion Conference in 2020.
